OK well, on the basis of a brief look at your blog and the totally counter-factual nature of that comment, I doubt further exchange will be productive. So when you say:

I’ll leave it for readers to decide for themselves. I’ve linked to the reports of Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch many times, and I’m confident that people can come to their own conclusions after reviewing the evidence.

Israel is not asking for credit for eventually stopping when they did. However, if Hizbullah ever decided to follow International law, the Israeli attack destroying much of Hizbullah and Lebanon would never have happened.

In fact, Israel knew “within hours” (as has now been admitted) that they would not be able to secure the return of the two captured soldiers using military means. On behalf of Israel, the United States and Britain worked deliberately to delay and stall a ceasefire, to give Israel the chance to kill some more Lebanese (which Israel duly did). I don’t see why Israel deserves any credit whatsoever for eventually stopping when they did. If anything, that credit should go to Hizbullah, without whom the Israeli attack could have continued indefinitely.

There was no possible Israeli victory short of a Final Solution in that war (and modern history is against that working, too). Some credit to them for seeing that (and stopping) much faster than the aggressors in certain other wars.

Its not surprising that the IDF behaves like this, they have become quite adept at manipulatiing information and portraying themselves as victimes while they are the aggressors.

The only thing that they seem to have acheived is made Hizbollah stronger by garnering more support for them. Israel is stuck in an endless battle that they simply can not win, with force or without.
