Jamie,

Really excellent article. The analysis of how Iraq is discussed is startling because it's so obvious...

Many thanks.

Err...are you sure? A quick look at your blog would suggest that you'd (thankfully) totally disagree with everything I have to say...

Very Well written. I have bookmarked you and have taken a subscription to get yours here in my email. I write the blog "Tired of all the Liberal Rhetoric out there...." and I have been looking for good news sources and places that have good writing. Good job and I will continue to read.

That it is, that it is. And, you know, what makes it so amazing is how utterly self-deluded they are. So, for example, Polly Toynbee begins one of her usual love-fests with this observation:

"Iraq was his nemesis, the reason why Labour's great winner crashes out of the sky still in his prime, still with that easy power of persuasion that can silence a room full of hostile journalists",

even as she goes on to conclude that social justice, along "with the strongest economy and the longest period of growth, is Blair's legacy".
It's like, woah Polly! Tone down the hostility there!
As for Blair's record at home, I recommend this informative piece by Chris Marsden, and see here for a brief look at his envronmental legacy (surely an integral pillar in any claims about "social justice").

It is quite a despicable wankfest isn't it? But I think I've missed something, namely, the "fairer and better Britain" that the crimes in Iraq have supposedly distracted us from. From statistics on distribution of wealth and overall satisfaction, to the infamous UNICEF report on child welfare, via the resurgeance of the far right and the assault on civil liberties, all the signs seem to point to Britain being worse off now than 10 years ago. Not as much worse off as Iraq, though, obviously.

@Jerry:
My, what a helpful, informed and constructive addition to the debate. Thank goodness you're here.
